What Types Are Available?

New/Current Style

With the new/current style number plates – which were introduced in 2001 – the first two letters indicate the area, and the last two digits indicate the year and date.

Prefix Style

With prefix number plates, ‘A’ refers to 1983 and so on. This style was introduced before the current style, and it’s the first letter that refers to the year of issue.

Suffix Style

Compared to the prefix style, with the suffix style it’s the letter at the end which refers to the year of issue. In this case, ‘A’ refers to 1963 and ‘Y’ refers to 1983.

Dateless

There are fewer restrictions with a dateless number plate when it comes to the order of digits and letters. As a result, there’s a greater degree of flexibility in what you can choose.
