BMW Number Plates

BMW is a brand with heritage, prestige and style. To add a personal touch to your ride, and incorporate an added element of luxury, why not search for a private BMW number plate from Absolute Reg? After all, a luxury vehicle needs luxury accessories.

You can personalise your plate with a range of factors, including your name or initials. As a result, your car will feel uniquely you. Read more below to learn how to get your dream number plate delivered fast.

What Types Are Available?

New/Current Style

The new/current style of number plates was introduced in 2001. Essentially, how it works is that the 2 letters at the beginning denote the area, and the 2 digits at the end denote the year and date.

Remember: in 2022, the regulations changed, meaning all number plates now have to be written in black lettering. The background has to be reflective and can’t include any patterns, either. This is to ensure they’re easy and clear to read for road users.

Prefix Style

The prefix style was first introduced in 1983. Here, the first letter indicates the year of issue. For example, ‘A’ means the vehicle was issued in 1983, and so forth.

Suffix Style

Before prefix number plates came the suffix style. Whereas prefix plates include the letter at the beginning, with this style, it’s the letter at the end that denotes the year. For example, Y represents 1982 and A 1963.

Dateless

If you’re looking for a flexible number plate, a dateless one is your best option. You can easily hide your car’s age, because letters and numbers aren’t used to denote this. As a result, your plate can be more creative and unique, as there are fewer restrictions.

BMW Number Plates FAQ

How do I change my BMW number plate?

  1. Remove the old plate, lift the screw covers and then remove the screws.
  2. You may be able to lift it easily, but in some cases you may have to use a wallpaper scraper. Be careful not to damage the car in the process.
  3. Next, drill the holes in your new number plate. Top tip: do this from the back, rather than the front.
  4. Once you’ve cleaned the holes of any debris, screw them in place. Ensure it’s firm but not too tight. Otherwise, the plate could crack.
