Land Rover Discovery Number Plates

The Land Rover Defender is one of those iconic vehicles with a deserving legacy that continues to this day. Each one has its own story to tell, and that’s why we believe it’s important to put your stamp on your story.

Here at Absolute Reg, we have a range of styles and options to suit your Land Rover Discovery number plate needs. To find out more, read on.

What Types Are Available?

New/Current Style

Since it was introduced in 2001, the new/current style of number plates use the first 2 letters to indicate the area, while the last 2 digits indicate the year and date.

However, since 2022 it’s important to remember how the regulations have changed. Primarily, the new rules mean that all number plates must have a reflective background and no patterns, while the lettering must be in black. The reason for this is to make them easier and clearer for road users to read.

Prefix Style

The current prefix style was introduced in 1983, where the first letter represents the year of issue from the 1st of August. For example, ‘A’ means the vehicle was issued on August 1st, 1983, ‘B’ means August 1st, 1984, and so forth.

Suffix Style

However, before the current prefix style, number plates used the suffix style. Where the prefix style has the letters at the beginning, the suffix style has the letters at the end of the number plate, which indicates the year. For example,  ‘A’ represents 1963 and ‘Y’ 1982.

Dateless

If you’re looking for a flexible option or to hide the date of your car, then dateless number plates are probably the choice for you. Because of the freedom they offer, they’re a great way to get creative and put your stamp on your car.

Land Rover Number Plates FAQ

How do I change my Land Rover Defender number plate?

  1. Remove the old plate, lift the screw covers and then remove the screws.
  2. You may be able to lift it easily, but in some cases you may have to use a wallpaper scraper. Be careful not to damage the car in the process.
  3. Next, drill the holes in your new number plate. Top tip: do this from the back, rather than the front.
  4. Once you’ve cleaned the holes of any debris, screw them in place. Ensure it’s firm but not too tight. Otherwise, the plate could crack.
