Before the new/current style was the prefix style. With these number plates, the first letter refers to the year of issue – so ‘A’ refers to 1983, and so forth. 

Suffix Style 

Predating the prefix style was the suffix style. Here, it’s the letter at the end which refers to the year of issue. In this case, ‘A’ refers to 1963 and ‘Y’ refers to 1983.

Dateless number plates are the best option for those looking for more flexibility. That’s because there are fewer restrictions when it comes to the order of digits and letters. As a result, you can be more creative with your number plate.

What size is a Mini Cooper number plate? 

• Mini hatch, 2001-2006 = 544mm x 160mm
• 2014-2020 generation = 555mm x 151mm

How do I change my Mini number plate? 

1. Lift the screw covers, then remove the screws from the old plate.
2. In some cases, you may need to use a wallpaper scraper to lift it. Take care not to damage the car.
3. The next step is to drill the holes in your new number plate. The best way to do this is from the back, rather than the front.
4. After cleaning the holes of any debris, screw them in. Make sure it's firm but not too tight, as it could crack otherwise.
